DESCRIPTION:Monthly 1st (or 2nd!) Friday of  the month\n\n\nYou are warmly invited to this year’s Chavurah Suppers\, a great way to relax\, let go of the week and welcome in Shabbat with other KLS members. Using the LJ Youth Siddur\, we will be singing together\, sharing our stories from the week that has gone\, de-stressing\, and most importantly sharing food\, in an informal Friday night service and shared supper\, with Gabriel Webber.  Please bring a plated vegetarian or fish supper and\, if possible\,  a favourite dish to share.  All ages welcome. \nAt the earlier-than-usual time of 7pm to make it easier for families to join us\, come along to spend the winter evening with friends welcoming in Shabbat!  Bring a vegetarian or fish dish to share. \nGuests are welcome to services @ KLS\, but please contact the office beforehand.

DESCRIPTION:Tu B’shevat – the ‘New Year for Trees’ – celebrating with Wine\, Fruit\, Poetry and Song! \nTu B’shevat on 25 January is the day in the Jewish calendar that marks the beginning of a new year for trees!  This is the time when the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep – when the sap starts to rise – beginning a new fruit-bearing cycle.  It is also a day when we remember that “[man] is a tree in the field” (Deuteronomy 20:19)\, and so we reflect on our relationship with nature.  It’s tradition to mark the day of Tu B’Shevat by eating fruit\, mentioned by the Torah in its praise of the bounty of the Holy Land: grapes\, figs\, pomegranates\, olives and dates.  Seventeenth-century Jews would gather in their homes for a fifteen course meal\, each course being one of the foods associated with the Holy Land.  Today in Israel\, it is customary to take children on tree-planting outings. \nWe can’t promise a fifteen course meal at KLS but please join us for a special Friday night service to celebrate trees\, the end of winter and all nature.  Please feel free to bring a piece of music or poetry.

DESCRIPTION:What is Holocaust Memorial Day?\n\n\n\nEach year\, communities across Britain come together to remember the millions of people killed in the Holocaust\, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia\, Rwanda\, Bosnia\, Darfur and other parts of the world. The Nazi persecution alone led to the death of some six million Jews. \nThe initiative is supported by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust who have set the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day in 2016: Don’t stand by. \nThe Royal Borough of Kingston’s Holocaust Memorial Day will be held on Sunday 31 January 2016 in Kingston Guildhall. It is being organised by the Kingston Inter Faith Forum in conjunction with Kingston University. \n  \nThe event is open to all. No booking is required. It will be followed by refreshments.
