Kabbalat Torah

Welcoming the Torah

Liane Avniam BM

Kabbalat Torah literally means ‘welcoming the Torah’. The 2 year course is designed for our students aged 13+ following their Bar/Bat Mitzvah and comprises of three subjects:

1. Spoken Hebrew & Israel
2. Service leadership skills
3. Jewish studies & projects.

The classes, which are as participant-led as possible, aim to lead towards a more personal understanding of Jewish values and include topics ranging from Torah to Jewish philosophy, Israel to Ethics, Modern Jewish Society to Jewish history.

Day trips and residential trips are also undertaken to places of interest in the UK and abroad.

The KT programme culminates with the students leading their own Shabbat service. This is a service which they design and conduct themselves. Following completion of the programme, all pupils are offered roles of teaching assistants or song leaders at Beiteinu.
