From Twitter to Torah

Rabbi Charley’s sermon for Parashat Chukat

We were delighted that KLS’s former Rabbi, Charley Baginsky, agreed to give the Torah sermon this Shabbat. Unfortunately due to some technical difficulties, she was not able to do so at the service itself but instead she delivered her sermon the following day on our Facebook page.

Rabbi Charley Baginsky was the Rabbi of KLS from 2006 – 2016. She is now Interim Director of Liberal Judaism.

Her sermon was on Numbers 20: 1-13 and in particular the brevity of the line “Miriam died there and was buried there”. She spoke about the concept of brevity (including the character limit on Twitter), of micro-stories – and the importance of Miriam in the Torah:

“The Torah of Miriam is the one which adds new paths, new explorations, new prayers and new tunes to the beautiful Torah of Moses”
