No-one to be excluded… no-one to be forgotten

Our Bnei Mitzvah students lead our Shabbat morning service, and teacher Russell delivers powerful Dvar Torah

Students preparing for their Bar / Bat Mitzvahs later this year led our Shabbat morning service on 28 Jan 2023 – Parashat Bo.

At KLS, our students take a very active role in leading the service when they become Bar / Bat Mitzvah. As well as each delivering their own Dvar Torah, the student also co-leads the morning service – leading some of the congregtation prayers in both Hebrew and English.

In preparation for this, the students from our current Bnei Mitzvah class – those preparing for their own Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremonies later this year – co-led the morning service on Saturday morning – each student taking their turn to lead parts of the liturgy, prayers, and taking an active role in the Torah service.

Their teacher, Russell, delivered a powerful Dvar Torah on Parashat Bo – falling this year on the weekend of Holocaust Memorial Day. Reflecting on the instructions for the Passover Seder in the portion, Russell highighted the importance of community and remembered those communities lost in the Holocaust – in particular those Czech communities whose Torah scrolls KLS is honoured now to hold. You can read his full Dvar Torah here.
