An original musical composition by KLS Music Director Rebekka Wedell to celebrate TuBishvat
We held a special Erev Shabbat service on Friday 29th January to mark TuBishvat – the New Year for the Trees. Co-led by KLS Music Director, Rebekka Wedell and member Sandra Webber, the service included contributions from members of the KLS choir – including solo performances and readings. They also led us through a TuBishvat Seder – incorporating white and red wine/grape juice and a variety of fruits with different symbolisms.
The highlight of the service was a piece of original music by Rebekka Weddell. Composed for the festival of TuBishvat, All the Trees of the Garden incorporates lines both from Midrash Kohellet Rabbah and from the contemporary book The Hidden Life of Trees by Peter Wohlleben. Featuring KLS member Lousia Michelson on clarinet, Rebekka on vocals and piano, and the voices of KLS choir members, it is a truly original and beautiful reflection on the importance of trees in our world.
