Teshuvah, Resilience and Law

Rabbi René’s sermons on Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur.

In his sermon on Kol Nidre, Rabbi René spoke about the themes of Teshuvah and Resilience – examining why people have responded in so many different ways to the challenges of the pandemic, the lockdowns, economic hardship, the anxiety created by the war in Ukraine and the risk of an upcoming financial crash. On Yom Kippur morning, his sermon discussed Jewish law and the levels of observance that exist within progressive Jewish communities: “I cannot say how little is too little, or how much is too much. I can only encourage you to bring Yiddishkeit into your lives. I am passionate about Judaism. I love our tradition of endless discussions, of respectful disagreements….Judaism questions us, constantly pushing us to reflect on how we conduct our lives and how we can make them better. And I see it as my duty to share this love and this passion with you”. You can read his full sermon here.
