On Saturday morning, students from our Bnei Mitzvah class led the Shabbat morning service.
The students, who are all preparing for their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs in the coming two years, led the whole service. They each had pre-allocated Mitzvot such as opening the ark and undressing and dressing the scroll.
They read prayers in both Hebrew and English as well as provided their own interpretations of the prayers themselves.
The class had been well-prepared for the service by their teachers Russell Landy and Dominique Scholtes and were also supported by Teaching Assistant and former Beiteinu student, Joshua.
Speaking at the end of the service, Head Teacher Carolynne Farrer said “All students should be really proud of themselves. For many of them it was the first time they had stood on the Bimah in front of the whole congregation but they had prepared really well and had excellent support from their teachers. When they each come to lead the service individually, at their own Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, they will be much more confident after today’s experience”.
